SkillSoft Dialogue Design Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Q-  What types of files am I able to import into Dialogue Design?

A-  You can import content from the following types of files into Dialogue Design:

  • Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Adobe PDF
  • Adobe Flash
  • JPEG and Bitmap files
  • Dialogue Recorded Sessions
  • Dialogue Design Presentations
  • Flash Video files (SWF files)

Q- After publishing my slides into a course and attempting to preview it locally on my PC I get a message -  'Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation' or I get a blank screen where the content should  be, what causes this to happen?

A-  If this happens it is usually because the security settings for your Adobe Flash need to be adjusted.  Follow the steps below to resolve:

  1. Go to this site: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.html#117502
  2. At the site you will see a pop-up box near the top of the page called 'Settings Manager'
  3. Click on always allow and then edit locations, click add location
  4. Add a location - usually C:\ if that is where the course is located. If it is located somewhere else please add that location.
  5. Now retry the course and the error should no longer happen.

Q-  When I try to import PowerPoint files into Design I receive an error message and the files do not show up.  Why is this happening?

A-  This may be happening because your Microsoft PowerPoint application has one or more plug-ins/add-ins installed that is interfering with the importation of the files.  It is recommended that you have a 'clean' install of PowerPoint when working with Dialogue Design to prevent this issue.  Contact Support for more information on this.

Q-  What is a PRS file?

A-  A PRS file is the source file (grouping of all the files imported into Design) that you will use to make any future changes for your course or Live Presentation.  To save a your slides as a PRS from within Design, click on the File menu, Save-as, then create a filename, click Save.

Q- If I have animations in my PowerPoint presentations how do I get them into Design so that they still function?

A- Click here to review instructions on how to sustain your animations and bring them into Design.

Q-  How do I turn 'auto-advance' on or off for the slides that I output to a course?

A-  You can turn this feature on or off at the slide level within Design.  To do so, in the Presentation Layout pane, right click on the slide you want to change, then select properties.  Now you can check/uncheck the 'Auto Advance' option.
